Anise Floyd Scholarship: established by Ms. Henrietta Floyd. Criteria: Must be from a coal mining background and have at least a 2.0 GPA.
James and Elsie Grant Memorial Scholarship: Established by Energy Corporation of America in honor of James & Elsie Grant, parents of Richard L. Grant, President of Mountaineer Gas Company. Two Civil Engineering Scholarship and One Baccalaureate Nursing Program Scholarship. Each student will receive per year $5,000, which should be renewable for up to 4 years, for tuition, room/board, books & fees. Criteria: Must meet College of Engineering and School of Nursing requirements. Recipients must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0, a US citizen and a WV or OH resident and be in-coming freshmen; demonstrated leadership abilities through extracurricular involvement in academic and/or civic related organizations. The scholarship may be retained for up to 8 semesters as long as recipient maintains a 3.0GPA. Financial need will be considered; and all other qualifications being nearly equal, given to a child or ward of an active MGC employee. The scholarship recipients will be selected by the President of Mountain Gas Company.
J.A.B. and Verna Veazey Holt Scholarship: Criteria: must be full-time nursing major, have successfully completed at least 30 hours of classroom and laboratory credit toward a nursing degree, be a WV resident from Kanawha, Fayette, Nicolas, Raleigh or Clay Counties; maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.
Joan Armbruster Scholarship: Criteria: student must be dedicated to the provision of excellent end-of-life nursing care.Must have genuine concern for patients who are facing the trials associated with terminal illness. Effectively communicates the needs of terminal patients to other health care providers who provide palliative care.
Lala Breeden Nursing Scholarship: In honor of Dr. Anne Cavalier’s mother. Criteria: Must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year nursing program at West Virginia Tech; must be a high school graduate from Fayette, Kanawha, Clay or Raleigh County in WV; must have attained a GPA of at least 2.5; show evidence of financial need, the scholarship shall be applied to tuition fees, books, or academic supplies
The Fitzwater Sisters Scholarship: established by Betty Carson, Helen Lodge, Melba White in memory of their parents, Howard W and Pearl B. Fitzwater. Criteria: The scholarship shall be awarded to a deserving, full-time Nursing student, with a high school grade point average of 2.0, entering WVU Tech, and who maintains a 2.0 GPA and continue to be enrolled full-time in the Nursing Program. The award is to be used for tuition, books, and fees. Should the Nursing program cease to exist, the annual earnings are to be awarded to a Business major. The Fitzwater Sisters are to be provided copies of receipts and disbursements as they occur.
Kathleen Cawley Johnson Memorial Nursing Scholarship: Criteria: full-time nursing student at WVIT.
Laird Memorial Nurses’ Alumni Scholarship: Criteria: student must have plans to remain in the nursing field at the local hospital or seek employment in the state of WV for at least two years, or pay back scholarship in three years; major in nursing; have at least 2.5 GPA if selected while still in high school; all other things being equal, graduated from Fayette, or Raleigh County or Upper Kanawha Valley high schools; must be a WV resident; applicants must submit a narrative.
Enrique and Sallie Aguilar Endowed Scholarship: From annual earnings only with one half paid at the beginning of each semester for tuition and fees, required textbooks, room/board but shall not be used for transportation. Criteria: Must be a full time student; Must have at least a 2.5 GPA if selected while still in high school and all things being equal if they graduate from Fayette County, WV high school or resident of WV.
Birges Laird’s Memorial Scholarship: Criteria: must be from Fayette County, WV who is in the nursing program at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and with financial need.. The scholarship shall be for four years and shall be for the purpose of paying the student’s tuition and if there are sufficient funds t o provide for the student’s text books.
West Virginia Center for Nursing Scholarship: See notices in nursing office. Criteria: student has been accepted into a LPN, ADN, BSN, MSN or doctoral degree granting program in an institution in West Virginia; must be a resident of WV, agree to work in WV for a minimum of 2 years after graduation, must be in good academic standing in the nursing program; must have completed 50% of their nursing curriculum and submit 3 references from (1) a current faculty member, (1) from the Dean/Director/Coordinator of the program and (1) from a current or previous employer. Additionally targeted for funding are: underserved and displaced workers; second degree students; financial unmet need; graduate students preparing for faculty position at MSN level; graduate student preparing for faculty position at doctoral level; RN preparing for a school nurse or public health nurse position.
